Description
Pilot Woman born in the city of Hull in England. Amy recorded the fastest flight from Britain to Japan, South Africa and India. She was the first person to fly from London to Moscow in one day. Amy served for the Royal Air Force by transporting aircraft from a factory from Scotland to air bases in southern England. That happened on January 5, 1941 when she flew in an “Airspeed Oxford” from Blackpool to Oxford, she flew with strong winds, a lot of fog and the compass was broken. She refused to obey an order not to fly in those conditions. It should have been a 90 minute flight but after 4 hours she crashed near the Kent coast when it ran out of fuel. She managed to launch with her parachute and a nearby boat triggered her rescue and there are speculations that her body was cut to pieces by the propeller of the lifeboat. His body was never found.
